Lightning
Overview
Salesforce Lightning is a robust user interface (it’s predecessor was Salesforce Classic) and development framework designed to enhance the Salesforce user experience. It was a massive step forward in terms of user friendliness from Salesforce Classic.
How Is Salesforce Lightning Used?
User Interface
Lightning UI brought in a host of welcome changes. Better navigation, enhanced visuals, news, and visual paths (account, opportunity, and leads) are a few of the more noteworthy additions.
Components
These “reusable” building blocks are the key to lightnings ability to allow developers and admins alike to build repeatable, low-code, quick to market solutions for their end users. They also allow for a bit more interactivity from an end user perspective than was available with similar builds in Salesforce Classic.
Flow Builder
The Flow Builder UI was completely redesigned with Lightning. Features like auto-layout, core actions and LWC have made flow easier to build and manage.
What is the Benefit?
Increased Performance
Delivers faster page load times, enhanced data handling capabilities and more viable integration paths with other Salesforce systems and third-party vendors.
Development Consistency
LDS or Lightning Design System is a CSS framework that delivers consistent styling and feel across custom developed apps and components.
Facelift
The UI changes were a welcome update to the way the product looked. While initially controversial the changes have been widely adopted by both the Salesforce community and users.
Who is Impacted?
Developers
Toolkits like LWC and LDS reduce the need to write custom code for every solution and allow for reusable approaches to development.
End Users
The enhanced UI enables much more free flowing and intuitive navigation between Apps, Records, Reports and Dashboards.
Admins
Templated approaches to flow building, guided setups for configuration and more refined Setup navigation have greatly improved the experience for Salesforce Admins.
