Chatter

Overview

Salesforce Chatter is a collaboration tool that allows users to communicate and collaborate in real time. It functions like a social network allowing employees to share information, receive updates and alerts, follow certain topics and collaborate. It also is available to external or community users, allowing communication and collaboration in real time between companies on critical business objects (cases for example in service).

How Is Chatter Used?

Communication Feed

Users get the ability to communicate/collaborate in real-time on Salesforce records. The posts are stored in feed format like a typical social network. Users can also follow posts to ensure real time alerts and notifications.

Groups

Chatter groups grant specific people specialized access to topical groups.  This again allows for easy collaboration, restricted file sharing and facilitating more structured and focused discussions.

What is the Benefit?

Increased Collaboration

Chatter makes it easy to work with your peers, be it debating a topic in a group, collaborating on an Opportunity to win a deal, or following up to assist on a Case record.

Increased Communication

Chatter behaves like a social-media platform which makes its adoption familiar and comfortable.

Who is Impacted?

End Users

Anyone with access can reap the benefits of enhanced communication across the company.

External Users

Community users can also pass notes/files/updates to internal users.
